What Makes A Barber?

Barbers sharing ideas with the world.

Last year I was at a hairdressing event in Manchester. Can’t even remember the name of it, which is a shame, but men’s barbering was severely under represented, which was an even bigger shame. But I did catch one guy cutting another guys hair using clipper over comb which an efficient looking pair of cordless clippers. I threw my hand up and demanded to know the make of the clipper.

This is the Wella Xpert.

It has medium to fine teeth and you can use it both cordless, or plugged in.

It has three cutting length settings on the blades: 0.5mm, 1.5mm and 2.5mm and after that you have comb attachments with the cutting lengths of 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20mm.

Great for tapering the nape, although doesn’t go to ‘0’, bit works fine with hair colour base 5 and up.

Runs very smooth, good feel in the hand, not too heavy.

Brilliant to use with a ‘Balding’ clipper to blend the lines out.

After my scissor and combs, this is the next most vital tool I have in my kit. So happy I demanded the name!
